Now that you know how to make pastry dough, you will find below an easy-to-follow picture guide of how to make a delicious and moist French apple pie.

Ingredients for the filling: (serves 4 people)

  • 2 or 3 Bramley apples (the sharpness of the Bramley gives a nice contrast to the sweet creamy sauce)
  • 150 ml of double cream – or half double cream and half (home-made) yoghurt for a healthier version.
  • 30g granulated sugar.
  • 1 egg yolk
  • little dizzle of vanilla essence
  • apricot or plum jam

Arrange apple slices around the dish

sweet pie pre cook 15 minutes

Place in pre-heated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 15 mins.

Meanwhile, prepare the creamy filling as follows:

sweet pie cream yogurt

200g double cream – or half double cream and half yoghurt (for a healthier version)

sweet pie sauce weigh sugar

30g granulated sugar

1 egg + vanilla essence

1 egg + vanilla essence

sweet pie sauce pour and cook 10 more minutes

Mix and pour over the par-cooked tart. Put back into the oven for another 15 minutes.

While still warm, brush some apricot or plum jam (previously warmed up to make it easier to spread) over the top.

Delicious warm with vanilla ice cream. A great treat for packed lunch the following day.
